What is the history of Mission Praise?
Mission Praise was first published as Mission England Praise in 1982 in advance of Billy Graham’s national evangelistic crusade Mission England in 1984. It was the first songbook to combine the great traditional hymns with modern choruses and worship songs, and was an immediate hit. Over the years a second and then a third volume were added, which were brought together as Mission Praise Combined in 1991, and further expanded as Complete Mission Praise in 1999. The latest edition, Complete Mission Praise, now has 1144 songs.
Over the years there have been various other editions including Junior Praise for use with children and young people, and Carol Praise for Christmas, with each book offering the same careful selection of the best of old and new.
What is the point of Mission Praise Online?
Mission Praise Online is intended to make life easier for the many churches that want to create their own service sheets or project the songs on a screen for the congregation to sing, and for those that have a choir or worship group who all need copies of the music. Rather than painstakingly copying from the printed books, you can now cut and paste the words to create service sheets or large print copies, and print out the sheet music. Plus the ease of searching helps you find the songs you want easily – and to explore what else is available too.
How do I find the song I want?
The Quick search facility enables you to type in any of the details of the song and instantly see a result. The Full search option is useful for looking for a song when you have specific but limited information about it – for example, if you know a few lines of the chorus, or the first name of the song writer.
The search results page will display a list of songs that meet your search criteria, with a preview of the first line to help you to recognise the song you’re after. You can sort these results or filter them to narrow down your search. You can also search for a song by the number in the printed books by typing the number into quick search, or using the ‘song number’ box and source book dropdown on the Full search page.
Why do some songs not have the words or music available?
The vast majority of songs in Mission Praise Online are available. However, a few are currently not available as some individual copyright holders have not yet released their permission for us to use certain songs. It would be helpful to us to know the specific songs you are looking for, please email to let us know. We hope to have these songs available soon.
To add a comment simply type in your feedback and press the ‘submit’ button. Comments are there to help others with their song or playlist choices, by adding suggestions of songs that complement the song in question, creative uses of the song etc… others might be encouraged to try songs you’re using. Please respect the creators of songs and playlists with your comments, posting helpful, constructive feedback. Any abuse of the comments boxes can be traced to specific users and may result in the withdrawal of priveledges.
How do I report an abusive comment?
Please email <report@missionpraise.com> stating the song/playlist that the comment has been posted on. Although we try to monitor the site to ensure it stays free of abuse, we greatly appreciate the community’s help in doing this, so thank you for taking the time to help.
A playlist is simply a way to collect a number of songs together for easy reference. Some people create a playlist for each service or assembly, others use it as a way of storing their own favourites for quick access. You can make a playlist accessible to other members from your organisation so that other musicians can see your choices and download music or listen to MIDI files before rehearsals. You can also make a playlist accessible to all users, sharing ideas of song combinations for services, seasonal ideas, or letting your choices help others explore new songs.
You can create a playlist from the playlists page by pressing the ‘new’ button, or you can just start off with a song. Find the first song you wish to add to a playlist and click the ‘playlist’ button under it. This will give you the option to either add the song to an existing playlist or create a new playlist. To add more songs, simply find the song and click the ‘playlist’ icon again. By clicking ‘playlists’ on the banner and highlighting a certain playlist, you can change that playlist’s options, making it accessible to your group, to everyone, or keep it private.
Is it OK to copy other people’s playlists?
It is fine to copy other people’s playlists. In fact they will probably take it as a compliment! Playlists are made public to help and resource others so feel free to use them. If you find a specific playlist helpful then why not comment on it on the Add Comments feature?
What happens when I subscribe?
When you subscribe you will need to either pay by credit card or register as an official church or school user and give details for your payment. You will need to give us your contact details and set a password for your account. Once you have paid you will have instant access to features. On the 'Edit Profile' function you can change your password to something more memorable, update any details and, if you have purchased a group subscription, you can add other members, giving them access to the site.
What am I allowed to do with the words or music I download?
If you have an individual subscription, you can download all you want for your own personal use. But if you perform, distribute or share the songs in any way you should seek the permission of the copyright holder. If you are a church, school or other organisation, you can report your usage under the appropriate CCLI licence. There is no limit to the amount of times or the amount of songs you choose to download but you need to report each song you use to CCLI. You can use your ‘Last twelve months’ playlist to help you with this when your CCLI report is requested.
